Golkin Hall Addition, UPenn Law School:
McKissack, in partnership with another firm, provided construction management services for the new 40,000 SF Golkin Hall completes a 10-year transformation and major expansion of the Penn Law School campus. The new academic facility was constructed between existing Penn Law buildings while occupied and promotes the collegial and collaborative environment that supports the educational mission of Penn Law as an innovator in legal education. A key programmatic goal for the four-building complex was to enhance existing interactions and facilitate new ones among faculty, students and staff. The new building is respectful of the historic Silverman Hall, and of the interior courtyard. Golkin Hall features a state-of-the-art court room, a 350-seat auditorium, faculty and administration offices, flexible seminar and collaboration spaces, the Sidebar Café, and a roof-top garden and walkway.
Extensive use of natural light via skylights, expansive stairways, interior glass walls and energy efficient systems helped the project achieve LEED Silver certification, one of the first law schools so designated in the country.
