Henry J. Carter Specialty Hospital & Skilled Nursing Facility:
McKissack, in a joint venture, provided construction management services for the New York City Economic Development Corporation (EDC) and New York City Health & Hospitals Corporation (HHC) on the fast-track Henry J. Carter Specialty Hospital and Nursing Facility Program in East Harlem. The project included the renovation of the 201-bed Long-Term Acute Care Hospital (LTACH) and a new Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF). The LTACH facility renovation involved the former North General Hospital to accommodate the relocation of 281 medical surgical beds from the Coler-Goldwater Specialty Hospital and Nursing Facility located on Roosevelt Island. The SNF is a new six-story, 164-bed facility constructed on an adjacent vacant parking lot that was partially covered by the existing North General Facility.
The two structures are linked with a concourse. After EDC/HHC expressed the need to accelerate the completion of the project by two years, the project shifted from a traditional approach to Integrated Project Delivery (IPD).
