NYCEDC/ NYCDEP Green Infrastructure:
McKissack was selected by the New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) to provide a full-time Community Construction Liaison to support the Green Infrastructure Project. EDC committed over $192 million, including Environmental Benefit Program funds, for green infrastructure in combined sewer areas through 2015. The primary objective of the Green Infrastructure Program was to reduce Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) and improve water quality while enhancing the City’s urban environment. The project was designed to control storm water at its source and to reduce the need for end-of-pipe storm water storage and treatment systems (or “grey” infrastructure) by managing storm water through controlled release, infiltration, and evapotranspiration “green” infrastructure technologies.
McKissack’s community liaison provided community outreach services by actively working with the project team and subcontractors, community groups, residents, businesses and essential agencies to ensure that there was an open channel of communication.
