Smilow Translational Research Tower:
McKissack, in partnership with another firm, provided construction management services for the $100 million, 550,000 SF West Translational Research Tower, now known as Smilow Research Center for Translational Research. The building houses research initiatives that integrate the range of biomedical disciplines required to achieve advances in the understanding of disease and the development of new therapies. The Tower is collaboration between the University of Pennsylvania’s Health Systems and School of Medicine. It sits atop the four-story tall Roberts Proton Therapy Center. The lower five floors of the tower act as a westward extension of Perelman Center for Advanced Medicine (CAM). The upper eight floors of the tower are used by the school of medicine and are designed for two vivarium floors and five laboratory research floors each with 22 principal investigators.
The two programs are separated by a three-story mechanical plant. McKissack was responsible for purchasing of over $70 million worth of trade contracts, including electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and special equipment. We oversaw weekly project meeting with architects in engineers as well as all the shareholders for the hospital.
