Sunnyside Yard Feasibility Study:
McKissack, as part of the design study team, conducted a feasibility and planning study for the development of a mixed-use development over Sunnyside Yards, an approximately 200-acre open rail yard network supporting active rail use by Amtrak, MTA/LIRR, and NJ Transit. The feasibility study provided guidance to the City, Amtrak, and the community of Queens as to the viability of an overbuild project at Sunnyside Yards and provides recommendations for its implementation. The feasibility study is a comprehensive and detailed assessment that considers all of the relevant aspects needed to establish a development program at Sunnyside Yards, including technical, environmental, market and financial analyses.
Specific factors evaluated include configuration of the rail yards, ongoing requirements of rail operators, geotechnical conditions, infrastructure and utility condition requirements, requirements and limitations of proposed deck structures over the rail yards, and local environment impacts of the development project. McKissack’s scope of services included force account analysis, construction and rail operations sequencing analysis, and scheduling.
