October 29, 2025 — Queens, NY
The Queens Gazette has officially announced that Cheryl McKissack Daniel, President and CEO of McKissack & McKissack, will be honored by the Queens Chamber of Commerce as one of its 2025 Business Persons of the Year. The recognition celebrates Cheryl’s leadership, vision, and lasting impact on both the construction industry and the local Queens community.
Each year, the Queens Chamber’s Business Persons of the Year Awards Gala honors individuals who demonstrate exceptional business acumen, innovation, and a commitment to service. This year’s ceremony will take place on December 3 at Terrace on the Park, where Cheryl will be recognized alongside fellow honorees Richard Grebinger, Dr. Helen Arteaga Landaverde, Larry Zogby, the Shoule Family, and Kenneth Koenig.
“The strength of Queens lies in the people who invest their time, talent, and energy into our communities,” said Tom Grech, President and CEO of the Queens Chamber of Commerce. “Each of this year’s honorees represents the best of what it means to do business in Queens—success built on service, integrity, and a dedication to lifting others up.”
Queens Borough President Donovan Richards Jr. also praised the honorees, noting their contributions to the borough’s growth and resilience:
“Congratulations to Cheryl McKissack Daniel and all of this year’s honorees. They have truly gone above and beyond in showing their commitment to the betterment of our community.”
For Cheryl, who leads one of the nation’s oldest and most respected Black-owned design and construction firms, the award is not just about business success—it’s about continuing a 120-year legacy of representation, excellence, and service. Under her leadership, McKissack & McKissack has managed over $50 billion in projects nationwide, including transformative work throughout New York City, from infrastructure upgrades to community revitalization efforts.
The gala will also support the 2025 Toy Drive benefiting The Child Center of NY, inviting guests to bring new, unwrapped toys to brighten the holidays for local children in need.
This recognition from the Queens Chamber of Commerce underscores Cheryl’s unwavering belief that leadership and community go hand in hand — that true success is built not only in the structures we design, but in the lives we uplift along the way.
