Book Signing at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Library (NYPL) with Charlamagne tha God
Cheryl McKissack Daniel Hosted a Powerful Book Signing at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Library
Cheryl McKissack Daniel brought an unforgettable evening of storytelling, history, and celebration to the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Library (The New York Public Library) during her recent book signing for The Black Family Who Built America: The McKissacks, Two Centuries of Daring Pioneers.
The special event, hosted in partnership with Charlamagne tha God and Black Privilege Publishing, drew an enthusiastic crowd of New Yorkers eager to learn more about the extraordinary 200-year legacy behind the McKissack family — one of the most influential Black families in America’s architectural and construction history.
During the conversation, Cheryl reflected on her family’s journey beginning with her great-great-great-grandfather, Moses McKissack, who was brought to America enslaved in 1790 and passed down the construction trade that ultimately laid the foundation for a multigenerational legacy. Under Cheryl’s leadership, McKissack & McKissack has grown into a national powerhouse overseeing more than $50 billion in construction and program management projects.
Charlamagne guided a rich, candid discussion about legacy building, the importance of documenting Black history, and the enduring power of generational resilience. Attendees had the opportunity to ask questions, meet Cheryl, and receive signed copies of the book.
The event served as both a celebration and a call to action — reminding all who attended that every family has a story worth preserving, and that legacy is built one intentional step at a time.
